June was a really fun month for our family! We are officially in summer, which is both busier in some ways and more relaxed in others.
We mostly take a break from homeschooling during the summer months. We still try to read together each day and I plan activities to do with the girls sometimes, but we mostly just do what we want and the girls get to spend a lot of time outside. They also get to spend more time with friends, which they LOVE.
The first day of June is always devoted to Parker's birthday. She had so much fun this year! I have a separate post journaling the day.
The day after Parker's birthday, Ashtyn had her first piano concert. She was so excited and did so well. She was slightly disappointed that she didn't play her songs perfectly, but she was happy with how she did overall and Ben told her he can help her practice in a way that will help her do "more perfectly" next time if she wants. She is loving her piano lessons!
Just a picture of the girls snuggling and reading together.
My mom came to visit for a few days and we were in heaven having her here!
While my mom was here, the library did a reptile activity. Parker and Rylee made these simple but cute bead snakes.
While Parker and Rylee were doing the "younger kid" activity, my mom helped Ashtyn make this beaded lizard. Ashtyn really wanted to do it and I was really glad my mom was there to help her while I helped Rylee and Parker.
They also had some live reptiles for the kids to touch and learn about. Ashtyn especially loved this. It was (again) really nice to have my mom there to help with Rylee and Parker, as they got bored of it a lot sooner than Ashtyn did. Ashtyn now wants a pet boa constrictor and loves tarantulas.
On one of the cooler, windier days while my mom was visiting, we went to the park in the morning. The girls always love the park!
In July, I hit my 7th month of pregnancy! We are less than two months away now and that is crazy and fun! We can't wait to meet little Oliver.
I love pictures of sleeping babies π
One of the activities we finally did was mud painting. The girls loved it! And the mess stayed (mostly) outside, which was nice!
Ashtyn's favorite summer activities are catching bugs and replanting weed flowers. She now has her own flower in a pot from my mom and she loves taking care of it!
Parker recently started looking up hair do's on Pinterest with me and then having me attempt them. I was particularly proud of how this hair do turned out with Ashtyn's hair.
One of Parker's many pictures.
Ashtyn and Parker love taking a break from the heat in the middle of the day to play their hand helds. I love when they do things together like this.
Rylee's favorite food is now BBQ sauce and she'll eat almost anything with it. We've also had to be careful of keeping it out because she will drink it from the bottle if she can get to it.
We've also loved going to the lake! Our pass from last year is good through the end of July this year, so it's been really fun to use that and go to Redfleet. Especially on the 100 degree days. The water is very low because of the drought, which isn't as nice of course, but there's still a fairly good beach spot for us to play at.
The library has fun activities each week for their summer reading program and we've loved going to them. This one was about flying things. They played frisbee golf outside, then went inside to make a flying machine out of craft materials. I didn't get a picture of Ashtyn's cardboard airplane, but she spent a lot of time gluing jewels all over the wings. Parker decided to make this person instead of a flying machine and Rylee just wanted to look at the books.
Ashtyn has loved origami recently. We found a book at the library showing her how to make different kinds of monsters out of her origami paper.
Me and Rylee π
Parker learned to balance with our balance bike for a couple weeks and then quickly graduated to a pedal bike with no training wheels. She loves riding her bike around and can get going pretty fast!
What it looks like when I'm trying to write or edit videos with kids around π
This library activity was a lot of fun as well! They had bowling, this cool way of painting rocks, and the big parachute game (I have no idea what it's called). Ben's cousin and her little girl came with us, which was really fun. It was a really hot day, so we went inside after to cool off while the kids played with the blocks.
Rylee loves putting on her costume from last Halloween.
Today, she was the mommy Pikachu with her baby Pikachu named Pika.
I walked into Ashtyn's room one afternoon after the girls had played up there to find this π
The girls each made a bucket list for summer. My favorite is Rylee's, where she wants to drive a car π every time we get in the car, she climbs in the front as if today is the day.
Another activity we did was these handprint mermaids. They loved playing with them afterwards as much as they loved making them.
The last library activity of the month was a water one. They had fishing for prizes, chasing bubbles, this pool where the kids could search for plastic fish, and a painting station. It was a lot of fun!
The month was a hot one, but we had so much fun! We are loving summer so far this year!
