January Family Memories - Surviving the Never-Ending Snow

When people ask Ben what we've been up to lately, he currently answers that we've been shoveling snow. We've had a lot of snow and really cold weather still, but we're getting through it by spending a lot of time together at home πŸ’—

I love when my kids read together πŸ’—

We've had a lot of blanket forts and games like "post office" since the kids spend so much time inside.
We also often have snow stuff left by the back door as the kids go in and out.

Ben helped the kids make a snow fort in the front yard.

And a mini sledding hill.
If we're gonna have this much snow, we've got to take advantage of it.

Ben and I started a new monthly tradition where we get some food and do a trajectory meeting together.

Me, trying to write but not wanting to πŸ˜‚

Oliver loves balls and playing basketball!

We also got the first Secret Project from Brandon Sanderson this month!
I absolutely loved it, it's one of my new favorites by him.

Spaghetti Day!

More "snow day" activities!

Oliver loves his puppy!
Every time we put him to bed, he snuggles it, kisses it, and makes barking noises.

Ben got me a standing mixer for my birthday and I absolutely love having it.

I also got a stone wheat grinder for Christmas and am feeling so spoiled with it.
I am having so much fun baking with it.

Oliver trying to fill Dad's shoes πŸ’—

I pulled out our books to catalogue them and the kids made a "library" in their room.

Oliver's favorite "toy" is Mom's computer πŸ’—

Ben got new shoes to play basketball in.
I don't know how Oliver knows, but every time Ben puts the shoes on, Oliver brings a basketball to Ben and it's the cutest thing.

Parker πŸ˜‚

Parker started a tumbling class and she is having a blast with it.

Ben found his high school year book at the library.
We all got a kick out of his adorable picture.

Ben and I played Her Story together in January. We had a lot of fun with it!
We found almost all the videos before using a cheat. I was really proud of us, especially since when we watched the videos we'd missed, they were either ones that you couldn't watch unless you had a cheat (which irritates me) or were ones we'd found before accidentally resetting the game. We love playing information games together.

Near the end of January, we had a couple days of sickness (we honestly had avoided very much sickness this winter until the end of January/beginning of February).

Ashtyn's photography skills with my phone πŸ’—

Oliver loves wearing Ben's shoes, even his giant boots πŸ˜‚

Ben made a game in a game jam and Ashtyn loved playing it (she said it was the most fun game she's ever played). The feedback from other players has been really positive as well. Ben is making a lot of progress in learning how to make game play fun with less effort.

We had someone leave us these cookies and the kids loved them!

The girls made themselves some couches out of cardboard couches and then Ashtyn would read to the others while sitting in them.

Oliver comes over and puts his arm around me, and I think it's my favorite thing ever. πŸ’—

Oliver loves to snuggle things.

We are going to be in trouble when Oliver learns to open doors.

Oliver loves cookies!

It's sad when Dad says no more cookies!

Now asking Mom for cookies hahaha

Our bulletin board in winter.

We did a week of learning about China in January. We read books, watched YouTube videos, and got Chinese food for dinner. There was a time when our kids wouldn't have eaten anything from a Chinese restaurant, but we're slowly winning them over. Rylee liked the fried rice, Ashtyn liked the Wantons, and Parker liked everything.

This was the kids' favorite activity of the week--learning Chinese letters and numbers by painting them with black paint.

This is Rylee's way of writing "1, 2, 3, GO!"

We did a year in review (Ashtyn hasn't finished hers yet).

Parker drew Ben a "friend", so he won't be alone when he works πŸ˜‚πŸ’—

Oliver takes these cars and lines up like this in different places.

Ben's birthday was January 30. I got him some Pickleball stuff and we were going to do a date playing Pickleball (but our babysitter's kids were sick, so we reschedule for later in the week, in February). His mom was out of town until the 31, so we did a party for him then. The kids wanted to surprise him with decorations (we usually don't do decorations for adult birthdays) and wanted to do a PokΓ©mon theme. I also made two Angel Food Cakes and ice cream. The fun part of the party was that Ben and I were surprising the kids with having their cousins from North Dakota show up. It was a blast and the kids loved the surprise!

January was a restful month for us for the most part and we're all feeling ready for warm weather again. Now if only the weather gets the message πŸ˜‚ in the meantime, we'll stay inside as much as possible and enjoy cousin time.
