When Ashtyn turned 10, we started doing a special movie night with her once a week where she got to stay up late with Mom and Dad after her siblings were in bed and watch a movie or TV show. We've done quite a few (Naional Treasure, Searching for Bobby Fisher, Lost in Space, etc) and she has loved it.
When we finished Lost in Space, we decided to introduce her to the Lord of the Rings movies. We watched the first half of the trilogy, but when Leah was born, we paused it and started watching Korra (it has 20 minute episodes, so it was much more doable for us when we weren't getting any sleep). Recently, we started up Lord of the Rings again and finished it with Ashtyn. She loved it.
For movie night, she often invites her uncle Caleb over to watch with us and he was able to watch all of Lord of the Rings with her. She loves to make him gifts and made him this Lord of the Rings coloring book and gave it to him the day we finished the last movie.
