Lagoon Trip 2022!

In 2020, we took the two older two girls to Lagoon with Makenzie and Koy. This year, Navy and Rylee were tall enough to go on a lot of the rides, so we decided to go again! It was such a blast and we want to make it a tradition to go together in the future :)

The only picture we got of the group! Ben stayed home with Oliver, so it was the three adults and four kids. The kids did such a good job staying close and listening.

Parker started off a bit rough. We drove out and back in the same day. Rylee and Parker had gotten stuffy noses, and we almost rescheduled. But they were acting just fine so we decided to go anyway, but I think it would have better to wait. But it worked out. I think part of why Parker was having a hard time was because her ears started hurting from the drive combined with her cold.

The drive out went pretty well. The girls wanted to listen to an audiobook called Lulu and the Brontosaurus. That worked well for the first hour and a half, but then the younger two started getting bored. We tried to turn on a movie, but we couldn't get our car DVD player to work, so we did music and treats. It was a little rough but ended up being fine.

It only took a couple minutes for Parker to cheer up.

The other thing that was harder was that it was crazy busy. I've never seen it this busy. The lines were long, which was harder on the kids. And because of leaving nursing babies (both Makenzie and I), we ended up leaving after the boys' morning feeding and got there later, so we were feeling rushed. Once we got going, we didn't feel quite as rushed and it was better.

Rylee was so excited to ride the "dragon roller coaster"! It ended up being her favorite ride. We rode the fire truck ride first, then came over to this one.

My original plan was for Parker and Ashtyn to be buddies on a lot of the rides and for me to ride with Rylee (and let an adult be alone, because I didn't want one of the kids to have to ride alone). We did that for the dragon roller coaster, but every ride after that, Rylee rode with Ashtyn and Parker was my buddy.

Rylee's favorite ride!

We were in front of Ashtyn and Parker, so I could look back at them while we were riding. They both looked like they were having fun. After getting off the roller coaster, though, Parker started crying and said it was too scary for her. We decided to slow down a little and let them do some kid rides. Ashtyn didn't want to, so Koy took her over to The Bat.

Parker loved the kid rides, but she would hang onto me and act scared even on the small rides. She loved rides when we went in 2020, so I thought if we just kept riding, she would warm up to it.

This was the first ride she went on without me and she was really mad that I didn't sit by her 😂

Rylee and Navy had such a blast doing rides together.

This is a terrible picture, but the look Parker is giving me in it is so funny to me.
After the ride when she was mad, we let her pick the next ride. She picked this one, but we didn't find out until loading they didn't let adults on, so it was another ride without Mom.

Despite me not being with her, they all ended up having fun on it.

After that, Ashtyn and Koy were done with The Bat, so we decided to walk over to Rattle Snake Rapids. When we got there, we were so sad to find out that it was closed for the day! It's one of my favorite rides, so I was pretty disappointed. It is also out of the way in the park, so it was frustrating to get all the way there before finding out.

While we were there, we got ice cream at Pioneer Village.

Then more rides! We finally got going with rides and started with Bombora. My girls loved it and it was the first ride that Parker finally decided was great. It was her favorite ride. We all went to get on again, but Navy was having a hard time with it. She ended up not getting on, but then I think wished she had once the ride started going. My girls loved it again and wanted to go again, but we moved on to some other rides.

Makenzie and I then took Ashtyn and Parker to the white roller coaster while Koy took Navy and Rylee on the Carousel. Parker was just barely tall enough for it, but if you were being really strict with it, they might not have let her on. I was worried about it, but they weren't strict with it and we all had a blast with it. It's my favorite ride in Lagoon and I loved riding it with my girls! It was also the first really big roller coaster they have ever been on and it was fun how it surprised them and also how much they loved it.

Then we all got in line for the Terror Ride. It was a long line and Rylee was getting tired. She tends to get tired still about 4 or 5 a lot of days and I think the crazy day plus the fact that she had a cold made it hard on her.

She was so excited for the "creepy ride" though and loved riding it with Makenzie! She loves "creepy" things, so it was right up her alley.

Ashtyn decided to go with Koy and Navy, so Parker and I were buddies again.

Then we let the kids do more kid rides. The kids loved doing the Carausel over and over again (Ashtyn wanted to ride the cat and she managed to the last time she rode it). We also did the Tidal Wave, which the girls loved. Navy was too scared to ride it and it made me feel a little nauseous. Parker also remembered the boats from the last time, so we did those. Ashtyn was too tall to do the boats, so Koy took her to do a bigger ride. She wanted to do the Mouse Trap ride, but it was closed, so they did the Colossus. It ended up being her favorite ride.

After the boats, Parker and Navy did more kid rides while Koy and Ashtyn were doing their ride. Rylee was too tired so we sat down and she fell asleep on me.

It was getting later at this point and Rylee had wanted to do the Bat, so we went over there to do it, but the line was long and Rylee decided she was too tired and didn't want to. I grabbed some cotton candy for the kids and we left.

Despite all the things that felt like they went wrong, the kids had a blast! It was really fun to take them!

The way home, Navy and Rylee fell asleep almost right away. Ashtyn and Parker listened to their audiobook until they fell asleep and then everyone (including Makenzie and I) slept while Koy drove us home.

While we were at Lagoon, Ben was hanging out with Oliver.
They both love Taco soup and it's really easy make, so I made some for them to have while we were gone.

Then Oliver got his own little ride!

This was such a fun game!

He was fussing when Ben stopped, so Ben took a video and accidentally caught Oliver taking a couple little steps!

They had a good time together too and ever since, he has been Dad clingy. He loved being buddies with Dad 💗

Back to School!

This week is "back to school" where we live. We took small amounts of time off our school routine (like the last couple of weeks, with family visiting and then me getting sick), but we didn't really "take the summer off". With taking the last few weeks off and everyone gearing up for school, we're all feeling excited for a new year of learning!

This is our "homeschool wall" and I love it. The left side is their morning list. I love having the alphabet underneath and it's been especially helpful when Parker wants to know what a letter is (she loves writing stuff and sometimes forgets what a letter looks like). The map is something we use often as well and it's really easy to go over and point out where things are as the locations come up. The bulletin board is a place we can hang up the kids' artwork, keep a "homeschool calendar", and keep our current family goal/streak.

This a "morning list" that I revitalized in time for "back to school". I love that each thing is its own individual card because then I can change it around as needed.

The girls are all excited for what this year will bring!

Ashtyn would be in second grade this year. She loves things like this and was very excited to fill out her papers. She also had many, many ideas of what she wanted to do and found some ways to combine them.
My name is: Ashtyn
Something I want to learn this year: A back walk-over
My teacher's name: Charly (my mom)
I'm excited for: Do dance class (she and Parker wanted to do a local theater class this year)
Something I find difficult: A front walk-over
My favorite subject: Math and Books
My favorite book: Comic books
My favorite hobby: Dance

Ashtyn is going to continue working on typing, writing her story, piano, math, and learning Esperanto (a constructed language that Ben and I have learned). She is also taking a theater class with a local theater that she is very excited for.

In addition to these, we sat down and helped her pick out a project that she wants to work on each day for the next few months (at Christmas time, our "extra" school time will go towards Christmas activities). She really wanted to do something that would help her learn more about bugs and she also really wanted to record her own audiobook.

My goal is to: Make an audiobook about bugs
Ways I can work toward my goal:
1. Learn about bugs (catch them, read books, watch videos)
2. Write the book
3. Record the book (learn how to record an audiobook)
4. Edit the recording
Why this goal is important to me: It sounds fun and I really like bugs
New things I will try: Get good at front walk-overs, my new theater class
I am going to work harder at: hand stands, typing, and piano
I will read: Comic books and graphic novels

Parker would be in first grade this year. She was a little less enthusiastic about filling out the papers (at one point, she asked why we had to fill out this boring paper and talk about stuff she likes 😂), but she is happy that she gets to focus on the thing she is most interested in--dance.

My name is: Parker
Something I want to learn this year: Irish dance
My teacher's name: Charly
I'm excited for: My theater class! Dancing more! Dance with Hannah when she comes back!
Something I find difficult: Reading Eggs (but sometimes it's fun!)
My favorite subject: Math and Science
My favorite book: Black Widow
My favorite hobby: Dance

My goal is to: Learn how to do an Irish dance (*I had to talk her down from learning every single kind of dance there is 😂)
Ways I can work toward my goal:
1. Learn how to hold your body
2. Learn steps, like skipping
3. Put steps together to music
4. Practice everyday
Why this goal is important to me: I dance a bunch and it's really fun
New things I will try: new moves in Irish dance
I am going to work harder at: learning to read
I will read: Books in Reading Eggs

Rylee would be in preschool this year. Because she's younger, we didn't choose a goal project for her yet. We're focusing on lots play, learning letters, building small and gross motor skills, and lots of reading aloud.

My name is: Rylee Sue
Something I want to learn this year: Learning to be a grown up
My teacher's name: Charly
I'm excited for: Go to the Rec Center to swim!
Something I find difficult: Eating an apple
My favorite subject: Science
My favorite book: Billy Goats Gruff
My favorite hobby: Drawing

I sure love these kids of mine and I feel so blessed to be here homeschooling them. They are amazing children and I know we are going to have a great year together 💗
