Night Swimming!

On Monday this week, we got to go night swimming with some of Ben's siblings and cousins, and it was so fun!

We went after we put the kids down, so all our babysitter had to do was sit at our house. We had Ben's dad come and stay with them. Since we have a pass, we drove our car and everyone rode with us. Ben's cousin Makenzie, her husband Coy, Ben's brother Caleb, and Ben's sister Melissa came with us. Jessica and Donovan were going to come, but they were waiting on Covid test results (came back negative!) and were staying away from people until they knew.

We left around 8:30 and got to lake around 9:00. It had been a really hot day, hitting 100 degrees, so it was still really warm, and the water was in the 70's. We went to Redfleet, which is a really cool lake. It has a few beaches, but it's mostly rocks and cliffs and the water is better for swimming because there aren't as many weeds as the other lake near us.

We hiked up to a spot away from people, but then accidentally ran into someone who was fishing. We were going to leave, but he was really nice about it and told us he was leaving anyway. The spot we found was a good place to jump in, which is what I wanted because it's so much easier to get in all at once than it is to slowly walk in.

Ben got in first and swam around so that we could be sure it wasn't dangerous to jump. We could tell it was pretty cold for him, and Makenzie and I were especially nervous to get in. Melissa had brought some glow sticks, so we got those out and everyone put some on. Then the rest of us got in the water.

I was the last one in, but I did jump in. The impact wasn't as bad as I had feared, but then it got cold--colder than I feared. I tread water for a moment, and it didn't take long to get used to the water and warm up a little. A couple people got out and jumped back in, but I just stayed in the water. I did swim over to the rocks and rested for a moment, though, to catch my breath after how cold it had been.

Then we swam over some cliffs and Ben and I got partially out and sat on a rock together, just watching the water and the cliffs. Redfleet is probably the prettiest place in Vernal, it's breathtaking. There were also bats flying over the water, which freaked Coy out but they left us alone and it was really cool to watch.

Then it was starting to get windy and a little cold, so we swam back and got out to dry off. It was a little before ten at this point.

It was French Fry Day, so we stopped at Wendy's and got 4 large French Fries to eat on the way home. Once we got everyone dropped off and got home, it was about 10:30, which was perfect.

It was a really fun day and we're hoping to do it again soon!
